The Power Of Forgiveness

The Power Of Forgiveness

Forgiveness is at the heart of our faith. It is both a divine gift we receive and a command we are called to obey. Jesus Himself taught us to pray, “Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors” (Matthew 6:12). But forgiveness is often easier said than done. When we are hurt, betrayed, or wronged, our human nature clings to the pain. Yet, holding onto bitterness only binds us in chains, while forgiveness sets us free. God’s forgiveness toward us is limitless.

The Bible tells us in Psalm 103:12, “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” If God, in His perfect holiness, can forgive us, how much more should we, as His children, extend that same grace to others? Forgiveness is not about excusing wrongdoing or pretending the pain never happened. It is about releasing the burden to God, trusting Him to heal our wounds and deal with justice in His way and timing.

When we forgive, we reflect Christ’s love. Jesus, even in His suffering on the cross, prayed, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do” (Luke 23:34). Perhaps you have been deeply hurt. Perhaps the wound is still fresh. I encourage you today to take a step toward forgiveness. It may not be easy, but it is necessary for your spiritual freedom. When we forgive, we open the door to peace, healing, and restoration.
